The town is located in Van Zandt County.  It was first established in 1849, then in 1852  a post office was opened and at that time the town it was called Hamburg. Then in 1855, the name of the town was changed to Edom for the name Esau was given in the book of Genesis. By 1860, Edom had a Baptist and a Methodist Church, a hotel, a Masonic Lodge, a sawmill, a tanyard, a wagon factory and a leather shop.  Edom's schools opened in 1866 and in attendance were the children of Cynthia Parker.

There is an Edom Historical Society Museum but it was closed the day we visited.  It would have been fun to tour it and see what they had on display.  Maybe next time!

Each store has bright plants and flowers to welcome visitors.

The town ebbed and flowed through to the 20th century.   But In the 1960's artisans in pottery, jewelry, antiques and other crafts settled in the town. An annual arts and craft fair was established in 1972.

After lunch we drove to the Blueberry Hill Farms and found our thrill and beautiful, yummy blueberries. More on this site in a separate blog posting.

After the blueberry visit, we drove east and stopped at the Blue Moon Gardens center.  Wow! They have lots of beautiful plants, flowers and vegetables as well as unique garden art..Blue Moon Gardens also has a separate posting.

By that time it was late afternoon and the day travellers decided it was time leave the slower pace of a small East Texas town and head back to the congested Metroplex.

We had a fun trip and are already looking forward to our next adventure back on the highways and byways of Texas.
