The Travelling Toe and 4 other friends journeyed to the cute little town of Granbury to attend a performance at the beautifully restored Granbury Opera House. The play we went to see was "The Marvelous Wonderettes".

Does the name of this play sound faintly familiar to you, Dear Readers? If so, it is because The Travelling Toe saw this same play at On Stage Theatre in Bedford in May, 2015 and reported on it then. So here is just a short overview of the storyline as a reminder.
The play opens in 1958 at the Springfield High School Senior Prom. The Wonderettes are the featured entertainment for the senior prom as the male singing group who had been scheduled to perform, had an unfortunate food poisoning incident and could not appear. The Wonderettes are ecstatic that they are performing at the prom. All 4 of the girls, and an unseen Judy Carver, are all in the running for Prom Queen. The 4 girls are beautifully outfitted in appropriate prom attire, including a matching wrist corsage. They sang some of the best songs from the late 50's,and here are just a few:
Lollipop
Sugartime
All I Have To Do Is Dream
Stupid Cupid
Lipstick On Your Collar
Sincerely
And to close the first act, they ended with "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me"
During the play, audience members get to vote for the Prom Queen! So much drama but lots of fun!
After a short intermission, 10 years have now passed. Once again The Marvelous Wonderettes are called on to perform at the 10 year reunion in 1968. The Wonderettes came out in mini skits and go-go boots. Some of the songs featured in this act were:
You Don't Own Me
I Only Want To Be With You
It's My Party
Son Of A Preacher Man
Respect
And closed with "Thank You and Goodnight/Sincerely".
The Wonderettes are appropriately named as they were indeed marvelous. Each of the girls had strong voices for their individual parts but also their voices blended in perfect harmony. They did sing to recorded music but never missed a cue.
We all 5 agreed that this had been a fun program and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. And it might partly be because we knew all the songs in the show!
