INSURGENT
movie poster
The Friday movie Mavens and The Travelling Toe opted to see "Insurgent" as the flick of the week. Having seen the first movie in the series "Divergent" it seemed fitting that we follow it up with the second one.
These movies are in the same genre as "The Hunger Game" series and the "The Maze Runner" series.and all are based on books geared towards young adults. The author of this series is Veronica Roth.

The action picks up shortly after "Divergent" ended with the the female and male heroes and two friends being chased by the bad guys, the Erudites, led by Jeannie (Kate Winslet). (However if you dear reader are like The Travelling Toe, your memory of the ending sequences of "Divergent "are somewhat fuzzy since it has been a while since it was last seen.) Tris played by Shailene Woodley and Four played by Theo James are on the lam with Tris's brother and a friend. In a run for their lives, they find themselves in a rural enclave lead by Johanna, played by Octavia Spencer. They are welcome to hide out there for a while to rest, eat and hopefully continue on somewhere else.

Jeannie, has a vendetta to capture Tris to use her "special powers" to unlock a secret box that contains a message recorded by the founders of the Factions. An all points bulletin is placed on the 4 divergent escapees and they must run for their lives. During the flight, Tris and Four meet up with a group of the "Factionless" lead by Evelyn (Naomi Watts). It turns out that Evelyn is really Four's mother. (side note: Evelyn looks to be the same age as her son Four, could not seem them as mother and son - oh well). The two courageous fighters finally make it to the justice faction "Candor' to seek assistance. Leader Jack Kang, who is played by the very handsome Daniel Dae Kim, tries to help them and sees what Evelyn is wanting to do but seems powerless to stop her.

During the movie there is a lot of running, hiding, gun fights and hand to hand combat. There is enough action going on for everyone who loves this type of movie. So is Tris captured and made to open the secret box and give Jeannie the power she so much wants? Who escapes the wrath of the Erudites? The movie ends with a very dramatic scene and The Travelling Toe will not will not spill the beans about it.
Robert Schwentke |
The movie was directed by German director, Robert Schwentke. There should be one more movie in the series to complete the saga, "Allegiant". However that is not to say that they could stretch it out and make into two.
Our group agreed that sometimes the sound quality was lacking somewhat as if their microphones were not adjusted correctly.
The Travelling Toe gives this movie one middle toe up with a set of odor eaters to be able to run flat out from all those evil Erudites.
