The Big Sick (movie critique)

THE BIG SICK
movie poster

Having seen the previews for the new movie,"The Big Sick", the Movie Mavens and The Travelling Toe saw it the weekend it opened at the local multiplex.

The movie is based on real life experiences of the lead character, stand-up comedian, Kumail Nanjiani. Here is a short description from the internet that describes the plot of the movie:

Kumail is a Pakistani comic who meets an American graduate student named Emily at one of his stand-up shows. As their relationship blossoms, he soon becomes worried about what his traditional Muslim parents will think of her. When Emily suddenly comes down with an illness that leaves her in a coma, Kumail finds himself developing a bond with her deeply concerned mother and father.

We found the movie to be funny, poignant and full of talented actors.  How he handles his family when they decide they will disown him due to his involvement with a "white" girl is very funny.  Do stay just a moment after the movie ends as there are a few pictures shown of the the real Emily with Kumail.  The only negative thing to mention is that the "F"word is used a lot so be prepared for that.
