SPELLMAN MUSEUM OF FORNEY HISTORY |
While walking around downtown Forney, we spotted a vacant looking building and was peering in the windows, when the door opened. A very nice young lady invited us in to tour the building. Well, we were pleasantly surprised to find out it was the Spellman Museum of Forney History. It is in process of relocating from the City Hall building to it's own permanent home. It seems a generous gift by the Spellman family make the move possible.
The new exhibits are not totally completed but we were able to see what these plans would feature. According to the museum brochure, the main gallery will tell the history of Forney through:
artifacts, text, and interactive exhibits. Themes include Native Americans, early settlers, transportation, agriculture, Forney schools, and more. Visitors can build their own model log cabins or play a matching game using tools from the blacksmith shop. Photos of historic buildings and the people who lived, worshiped and worked in them can be seen through the exhibits.
