TEXAS BALLET THEATER program |
Texas Ballet Theater
On a beautiful Fall Saturday afternoon, The Travelling Toe and 2 dear friends attended the matinee performance of the current production presented by the Texas Ballet Theater. On the program were 2 different ballets, "Carmen" and "DGV:Danse a Grande Vitesse".

"Carmen" was choreographed by esteemed ballet star, Carlos Acosta. The ballet is danced to Georges Bizet's gorgeous music from the opera "Carmen". The program describes the ballet as follows:
Don Jose falls in love with Carmen and sacrifices everything to be with her. When Carmen becomes infatuated with the toreador Escamillo, she loses interest in Don Jose, whose love quickly turns to violent jealousy. Don Jose tracks Carmen down and murders her.
After a short intermission, the second ballet, "DGV:Danse a Grande Vitesse" took stage. Christopher Wheeldon was the choreographer of the ballet and Michael Nyman wrote the music, which was so engaging and enjoyable.

The ballet is described in the program as follows:
The ballet conveys the timeless romance of travel, alongside the wonder of modern technology..........Against sheets of steel that curve upward at the edges of the stage, the corps de ballet evokes the dynamic rhythms of technology, as well as more organic shapes. Four exquisite pas de deux track the music's journey through shifting physical and sound landscapes.
What made the ballet even more enjoyable was the live music played by the Symphony Musicians of Fort Worth and under the baton of Maestro Miguel Harth-Bedoya.
