JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT |
Three Dear Friends and The Travelling Toe attended the Sunday matinee performance of "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the Granbury Opera House.
This musical was written by the successful team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
The premise of the story is based on the character of Joseph and his family as told in Genesis 37. The play does a good job of telling the story of Joseph as we all learned it in Sunday School with only a few minor detours along the way.
What is so much fun about this musical is that different musical styles are used. After Joseph is sold as a slave, the brothers have to tell Jacob that Joseph won't be home again. So they explain it to him with the CW version of "There's One More Angel In Heaven." After the famine hits, the brothers sing in the style of a French cabaret (with berets as well) of "Those Canaan Days". Meanwhile Joseph is floundering in jail and he sings a very beautiful song "Close Every Door" expressing how his circumstances have changed.. And not wanting to give a spoiler, the Pharaoh sings about his troubling dreams to Joseph in a very unique style....Pharaoh is after all a "King"!
This production was full of good singing and dancing with a fun storyline that all can enjoy. All the cast members were excellent in their parts.
