Lance Brown - Artist

First United Methodist - Hurst

FUMC Hurst

The Travelling Toe and a group of Dear Friends, attended the monthly meeting of the Encore group at our home church - FUMC Hurst.  The Encore group is for those of us who are now in the encore part of our lives.

The May meeting was very exciting and inspiring.  Lance Brown, a local artist, was the guest speaker for the meeting.

After his introduction, he jumped on stage and began painting on a blank canvas.  He started with black paint often using his hands as well as a paint brush.  As the picture began to take shape, on the right side was a slight hill with 2 crosses and on the left side was a drawing of Jesus on the Cross. Then to the left of that he painted, in an aqua color, the letters HOPE.  He then scribbled them out and re-ranged the figures of  black paint.  After looking at it a bit, he turned it over it and the audience gasped....it was an amazing picture of the head of Christ.

(some of these angles are not too good but The Travelling Toe did now want to block someones view while taking photos)

Lance then shared his life story and testimony.  He is actually a colorblind artist.  He studied at the Art Institute of Dallas using computers rather than drawing.  At one time he worked for the Dr. Pepper Company and designed advertisements and other items for the various sports teams.  But he soon tired of the corporate world and wanted a different path and to find his real purpose. In 2009 he drew his first picture of Jesus.  But he was worried about making a living from his art and being able to support his family. But life took a downward turn due to a couple of major disasters and he was unable to paint.  In the end he took down his website.  But a large church in Dallas had seen his You Tube presentations and wanted him to come to their church and paint for them. That invitation opened up a new life for him and his family.  He now has a full calendar allowing him to paint at churches and other events and share his story of how God can use a colorblind artist to His glory.

He had a display of some of his paintings and prints for sale.  Many Encore attendees took advantage of the many beautiful pictures on display and purchased items for home, friends and family.

What an uplifting and delightful  program!
