"Mama Won't Fly" presented by Theatre Arlington

MAMA WON'T FLY
play program
The Travelling Toe and friend attended the Sunday matinee performance of "Mama Won't Fly" at Theater Arlington.

This very funny play starts with the daughter, Savannah, who agrees to ensure that she will get her mother, Norleen, all the way from Birmingham to California in time for her brother's wedding, which is in 4 days.  But Norleen has decided that she is afraid of flying and they have to get there on a road trip in her vintage Buick  Needless to say, Savannah does not relish being stuck in a car (with no A/C) and her mother for 4 long grueling days.  Just as they are about to leave Birmingham , the bride-to-be, Hayley, shows to tag along on the trip.  After all the girls make one more pit stop before hitting the road, Hayley makes a startling confession. When she was a young girl, another girl gave her the evil eye and she has had bad all her life. So that sets the tone of the whole story of the road trip.  It is one disaster after another, from causing large boulders to fall down a hill and onto the highway at the Woman's Foundation Garment Museum (think about it) to having their car stolen, being caught in a storm,  out-foxing a member of the New Mexico Highway Patrol to almost losing the bride-to-be along the way

Does the bride make it to the altar on time?
Is Hayley's bad luck curse vaporized and if so how?
Will Savannah find the man of her dreams?
Will Norleen tell the truth about why she won't fly?

Well Dear Readers, all these questions and more are answered in the funny and often
side-splitting escapes of these 3 women on their cross country trip.

This play is totally Southern and you will probably find some one you know in one of these woman!
